Easter Traditions in our Australian Family

Easter Traditions in our Australian Family

Australia’s cultural background came about due to a mixture of many traditions, religious influences and cultures. Some of our family members make masses and masses of fishcakes, using salmon and potatoes. The younger generations in the family now carry on this tradition. In our house, we always serve fish as protein on Good Friday.

My mother started an Easter tradition by giving each grandchild a little chocolate bunny with a red collar and bell around its neck. I have continued this tradition with my grandchildren and hope they will carry it on with their families in the future.

Many families have such busy lives and use the four day holiday weekend to catch up with family and friends. In Australia Easter 2021, we were Covid free and were able to socialise with others.

In the Northern Hemisphere, Easter is at the beginning of spring, but in Australia being in the Southern Hemisphere, for us, it is the start of the cooler autumn weather.
