Welcome

Welcome

Thank you for being part of a great journey searching for our Danish ancestors and finding family connections in Denmark, Australia and possibly other parts of the world. Thank you also to our mother’s cousins, Jon and Keith, for your inspiration and for the work you had already done on our family history. Last but not least, thank you to all of you out there who have helped us to get this journey going in so many ways.

A spoiler alert! Although we have made significant progress, at the time of starting this blog, we still are not positive where the DNA matches fit. Please join us as we document our investigations and ideas to solve our many research questions.

This part of the journey started in 2017 when I took on the challenge of trying to find out who our Danish maternal’s side, two times great grandfather, Robert Smith’s parents were. Other family members had taken the first steps so, with the help of many, I started to follow his trail.

Our facts on Robert were minimal. We had an approximate birth year 1842-1843 and that he was born in the Aarhus area of Denmark. Arriving in Australia around 1870 as a seaman aboard sailing ships.

Furthermore, Robert is only one piece of our puzzle as we research our Danish connections. We hope this blog will be another tool in documenting and organising our genealogical searches.

And, many cousins have had DNA tests done to give us even more tools for solving the questions on our Danish heritage, and DNA is how Charlotte and our family first made our connections. So together we are delving into our Danish DNA.
